十妙

The ten wonders, or incomprehensibles; there are two groups, the [lang id =1028]迹ｖ traceable or manifested and [lang id =1028]本門妙 the fundamental. The [lang id =1028]迹門十妙 are the wonder of:

(1) [lang id =1028]境妙 the universe, sphere, or whole, embracing mind, Buddha, and all things as a unity;

(2) [lang id =1028]智妙 a Buddha's all-embracing knowledge arising from such universe;

(3) [lang id =1028]行妙 his deeds, expressive of his wisdom;

(4) [lang id =1028]位妙 his attainment of all the various Buddha stages, i.e. [lang id =1028]十住 and[lang id =1028]十地;

(5) [lang id =1028]三法妙 his three laws of [lang id =1028]理, [lang id =1028]慧, and truth, wisdom, and vision;

(6) [lang id =1028]感應妙 his response to appeal, i.e. his (spiritual) response or relation to humanity, for "all beings are my children";

(7) [lang id =1028]神通妙 his supernatural powers;

(8) [lang id =1028]說法妙 his preaching;

(9) [lang id =1028]眷屬妙 his supernatural retinue;

(10) [lang id =1028]利益妙 the blessings derived through universal elevation into Buddhahood. The [lang id =1028]本門十妙 are the wonder of

(1) [lang id =1028]本因妙 the initial impulse or causative stage of Buddhahood;

(2) [lang id =1028]本果妙 its fruit or result in eternity, joy, and purity;

(3) [lang id =1028]國土妙 his (Buddha) realm;

(4) [lang id =1028]感應妙 his response (to human needs);

(5) [lang id =1028]神通妙 his supernatural powers;

(6) [lang id =1028]說法妙 his preaching;

(7) [lang id =1028]眷屬妙 his supernatural retinue;

(8) [lang id =1028]涅槃妙 his nirvāṇa;

(9) [lang id =1028]壽命妙 his (eternal) life;

(10) his blessings as above. Both groups are further defined as progressive stages in a Buddha's career. These "wonders" are derived from the Lotus sūtra.

﹝出法華玄義﹞ 不可思議名妙， 即實相之理也。 實相之理， 精微玄妙， 清淨寂絕。 經云： 是法不可示， 言辭相寂滅。 是也。 總論因果自他， 故具明十妙， 妙體無殊也。 〔一、 境妙〕， 境即理境也。 謂十如是等境， 心、 佛、 眾生三無差別， 不可思議。 經云： 唯佛與佛， 乃能究盡諸法實相。 所謂諸法如是相。 等是也。 （十如是者， 如是相、 如是性、 如是體、 如是力、 如是作、 如是因、 如是緣、 如是果、 如是報、 如是本末究竟等也。 ） 〔二、 智妙〕， 智即全境所發之智也。 以境妙故， 智亦隨妙。 函蓋相應， 不可思議。 經云： 我所得智慧， 微妙最第一。 是也。 （函蓋相應者， 函喻境， 蓋喻智， 應， 當也。 ） 〔三、 行妙〕， 行即所修之行也。 以智妙故， 智導於行， 行亦隨妙， 不可思議。 經云： 行此諸道已， 道場得成果。 是也。 〔四、 位妙〕， 位即修行所歷之位次也。 謂十住、 十行、 十回向、 十地等諸位， 以行妙故， 所證之位亦妙， 不可思議。 經云： 乘是寶乘， 遊於四方。 是也。 （十住者， 發心住、 治地住、 修行住、 生貴住、 方便具足住、 正心住、 不退住、 童真住、 法王子住、 灌頂住也。 十行者， 歡喜行、 饒益行、 無瞋恨行、 無盡行、 離癡亂行、 善現行、 無著行、 尊重行、 善法行、 真實行也。 十回向者， 救一切眾生離眾生相回向、 不壞回向、 等一切佛回向、 至一切處回向、 無盡功德藏回向、 隨順平等善根回向、 隨順等觀一切眾生回向、 真如相回向、 無縛解脫回向、 法界無量回向也。 十地者， 歡喜地、 離垢地、 發光地、 焰慧地、 難勝地、 現前地、 遠行地、 不動地、 善慧地、 法雲地也。 四方， 即東西南北， 表前四十位也。 ） 〔五、 三法妙〕， 三法即真性、 觀照、 資成之三法也。 真性是理， 觀照是慧， 資成是定。 此之三法， 是佛所證， 不可思議。 經云： 佛自住大乘， 如其所得法， 定慧力莊嚴。 是也。 （資成者， 謂定力能資助成就智慧也。 ） 〔六、 感應妙〕， 感即眾生， 應即佛也。 謂眾生能以圓機感佛， 佛即以妙應應之。 如水不上升， 月不下降， 而一月普現眾水， 不可思議。 經云： 一切眾生， 皆是吾子。 是也。 〔七、 神通妙〕， 天心名神， 慧性名通。 天然慧性， 徹照無礙， 名為神通。 謂如來無謀之應， 善權方便， 稱適機宜， 變現自在， 不可思議。 經云： 今佛世尊， 入于三昧， 是不可思議現希有事。 是也。 （梵語三昧， 華言正定。 ） 〔八、 說法妙〕， 謂說大小乘偏圓之法， 咸令眾生悟入佛之知見。 一音宣演， 不可思議。 經云： 如來能種種分別， 巧說諸法， 言辭柔軟， 悅可眾心。 是也。 （偏圓者， 謂小乘之法， 所談之理， 非中名偏。 大乘之法， 所談之理， 具足圓滿， 名圓也。 ） 〔九、 眷屬妙〕， 謂佛出世， 十方諸大菩薩， 皆來贊輔； 或以神通而來生者， 或以宿願而來生者， 或以應現而來生者， 皆名眷屬， 俱不可思議。 經云： 但教化菩薩， 無聲聞弟子。 是也。 〔十、 利益妙〕， 謂佛說法， 一切眾生咸得開悟本性， 入佛知見。 猶如時雨， 普洽大地， 蒙益不可思議。 經云： 現在未來， 若聞一句一偈， 我皆與授阿耨多羅三藐三菩提記。 是也。 （梵語阿耨多羅三藐三菩提， 華言無上正等正覺。 ）
